Penelope at delicate arch

Looking out to Delicate Arch.

Prickly pear
(zoom)

A very prickly prickly pear! The black lumpy stuff in the foreground is cryptobiotic soil. I'm not sure what that means, but you aren't supposed to walk on it. The full size image makes the prickly pear look much better.

It appears that the chipmunks have adapted to the red rock.

Check out the funky looking lichen.

Some neat looking fins

On the left I'm standing in front of the lower opening of Double O Arch.In the canyon, Penelope is about to turn left and continue along the Primitive Trail.

Penelope walking along the slick rock just beyond where the previous picture was taken.

This is me standing in a narrow chute. The other wall is just barely outside of the frame at right. We were following another group of hikers, and ended up going off course through this steep chute. The folks hiking behind us did the same. Doh! There were so many tracks in the sand at the bottom we didn't realize what had happened until we got back on the trail going backwards and ended up back at the top of the chute!

No Name Rest Area

Would you like to go to Parking or Area? And, what was the name of that rest area again?
