Hagerman Pass Gate

Hagerman Pass Gate Sign

A defining moment on our Betty Bear Hut trip. Hagerman Pass Road was closed about a mile short of Hagerman Pass (11,900 feet) for "security reasons." Not to be dissuaded, we were able to pack all of the essential gear to the hut, three miles on the other side of the pass.

Evening moon over the mountains

The moon can be seen over the mountains around sunset. The peak in the "V" is Mount Elbert, 14,433'.

Jason eating breakfast Folks waking up

Getting going in the morning. The temperature was in the upper twenties, but it felt *much* warmer in the sun! That's me on the left. Nick, Geoff, and Lisa on the right.

This is what we are looking at from the balcony.

Chipmunk on a rock
Camp robber getting some food

These guys joined us for breakfast. The chipmunk ate on the rock for quite a while. The camp robber was into the dried fruit we left it on the railing.

Group Picture

A group picture before treking back over Hagerman Pass. Left to right we have Nick, Drew, Jill, Todd, Marty, Vickie, Kevin, Paul, Penelope, Lisa, Geoff, and Jason

Hagerman Tunnel

Here we're looking down the West end of Hagerman Tunnel. The water filling the tunnel was amazingly clear; the emerald color in the photo is pretty close to how it actually looked.
